Memrise

There's a place for Memrise. For several languages, I need to become familiar with different alphabets and/or writing systems. And so for Greek, Korean, Russian, Hindi, Taiwanese, and Burmese, I've made a start on various courses.

I've also revived an English group I'd once started for my Level 2 English students. I'm inviting them to give it a go.

(For some reason, Memrise doesn't load on my old computer.)

Greek - 19 April

In February, I took a look at Greek. I had an ebook at hand, but I didn't know its title in English. All I knew was that Camilla Lackberg was the author. Without any other resource, I just compiled a list of letters. I made a frequency chart of their usage.

Since then back in New Zealand, I worked out the boo's title: The Preacher. But although I like the Greek alphabet, I kept looking for a better text. The above Beginner's Greek Script is a fairly light read, and I'll try simply to skim read through it.

I may try the BookBox approach too.

Modern Greek

Having run out of useful things to do with Hindi and Arabic, and needing to wait for 2 weeks until I have the resources and tools to continue, I explore the contents of my Kindle and discover a random novel in Greek.

I know the author, but not the title. I've no Greek dictionary. At this stage I don't even know the Greek alphabet. So to make a start, I'll compile a list of letters, and see whether I can isolate a few words.
